Blueberries

Lowbush blueberries (Vaccinium angustifolium) are native to Canada and the Northeastern United States, and now grow as far west as the Great Lakes and as far south as the Great Smoky Mountains.

The bushes grow wild but often require some level of management from the farmers who harvest them, including intensive pruning at the end of each berry harvest.

Blueberry Honey 

A pleasant flavor variety produced in New England and in Michigan, Blueberry honey is extracted from the white flowers of the blueberry bush. Light amber colored, a well-rounded flavor and a hint of tanginess from the Blueberry. Blueberry Honey makes for an ideal accompaniment for your breakfast meals like oats, pancakes and cereal bars.

Studies have shown that for each hive placed per acre, the farmer can expect another 1,000 pounds of fruit! Some farmers will rent as many as 5 hives per acre in order to grow the largest crop possible.

This is an excellent honey with a deep flavor profile gathered from the tiny white flowers of wild blueberry bushes. Ideal for cooking, sauces, salad dressings or toast.

Blueberry bushes offer their annual bounty to the beekeepers, who are pollinating this crop.

Migratory beekeepers move their bee hives to the blueberry fields for several weeks to ensure the blossoms are well pollinated for a healthy crop of blueberries. While the bees are busy with their pollination tasks, they also produce a delightful honey.
