How logical does it seem that honey is very effective in boosting memory? If you are one of those people who have heard that high sugar intake reduces brain activity, this phrase does not seem very logical to you. In fact, honey has been praised many times as a good fuel for the brain, to prevent stress on the body and to provide a good night’s sleep, which are essential for strengthening our memory and cognitive activities. With this in mind, we aim to examine articles and research related to the direct relationship between eating honey and our ability to think and remember better.

 

Memory Improvement

We first examine a five-year study conducted from 2003 to 2008 by the University of Babylon School of Medicine in Iraq to examine the effect of honey in preventing cognitive decline and dementia. The 2,893 participants in the study, who were over 65 years of age, were randomly selected and examined, 2,290 of whom were healthy and 603 of whom had mild dementia. In this study, about half of the people received honey daily and the other half received honey daily. The findings of 2008 were astonishing.

 

According to them, honey has natural antioxidants and healing properties that can prevent cognitive decline and dementia and improve the cholinergic system of the brain and blood circulation. Other research has also shown that the polyphenol properties of honey can counteract oxidative stress, restore our cells’ antioxidant defense system, and thus help improve memory problems. For example, a study from Argentina on the chemical composition of honey showed that honey helps build and develop children’s central nervous system and can reduce stress, boost memory, learning and mental function in the future.
